A Condensed History of PhishAll you need to know to get started off on your way to knowing what Phish is all about.Who (or what) is "Phish?"Phish is a musical group taking the qualities of bands/musicians such as Steely Dan, Sun Ra, The Grateful Dead, The Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, as well as many others, combining jam/improvisational styles with rock, bluegrass, funk, and just about any others types of music ever concocted. In all, Phish is a band which is very open to change and experimenting with what is known and common to the band and the fans. The four members of Phish are: Page "Chairman of the Boards" McConnell- keyboards, vocals, bass (rare) Trey "Anastasia" Anastasio- guitars, vocals, toy drum set Mike "Cactus" Gordon- bass, vocals, banjo Jon "Fish" Fishman- drums, "Madonna" washboard, Electro-Lux vacuum, vocals, occasional yelps How did Phish get started?In the dorms as UVM, originally. Trey heard Fish playing his drums in his dorm room. Mike responded to a posting for a bass player. After the rehearsel, during which Mike wasn't at his best (supposedly), he asks, "Did I make it?" He did. Before Page came along a year or two later, Jeff Holdsworth was a fixture in the band, playing rhythm guitar, and co-creating Phish with Trey.
